Amar is a veteran of over 15 years in the South Asian money transfer industry, Amar has the unique achievement of laying the foundation of the industry in South Asia, Middle East and India as the first Regional Director of Western Union for the region during mid nineties. Under his initiative, 17 countries of the region allowed the agent based ‘instant cash transfer’ service to be introduced in the region. The region now has grown into the premier money transfer destination of the world with the total remittances reaching $80 billion during 2010. No global money transfer company can claim to complete its money transfer portfolio without having a presence in this important region.
Amar has successfully contributed to the South Asian money transfer service in terms of strategy, direction and revenue generation. Besides being in the first team of international managers of Western Union, he has been involved with ventures like Nexxar / Omnex and MoneyDart Global Services where he developed their critical South Asia infrastructure. Currently the CEO of a major South Asian start up venture, Amar had started his career as a banker and held important assignments as Director - American Express, Vice President – HSBC and Management Trainee / Manager of State Bank of India. Amar has done his Master in International Affairs from Columbia University in New York and is widely regarded as an authority on South Asian money transfer market. Previously, he has addressed several international money transfer conferences in Dubai, India and elsewhere on the subject.
