Dilip Ratha is a lead economist and manager of the Migration and Remittances Unit in the World Bank as well as the CEO of Migrating Out of Poverty Research Consortium, a multi-disciplinary collaboration among 6+ universities and research institutions in Africa, Asia and Europe.
Dilip, an indian national, is an adviser to many governments and international forums including the Global Forum on Migration and Development, the Global Remittances Working Group, and World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on migration. Expertise includes migration, remittances, and innovative financing. He is a lead author of “Global Economic Prospects 2006: Economic Implications of Remittances and Migration”, and an editor of “Innovative Financing for Development”. Dilip's work reflects a deep interest in financing development in poor countries. He has been working on development finance and emerging markets for nearly two decades while at the World Bank.
Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked as a regional economist for Asia at Credit Agricole Indosuez, Singapore; assistant professor of economics at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and economist at the Policy Group, New Delhi.
